Duke of Edinburgh
This year at St Ursulas we are offering the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award to both the year 11 and 9 students. We have 64 students across both year groups who have taken up this wonderful opportunity.
The Duke of Edinburgh is a fantastic award in which the students learn some valuable skills whilst having fun and making new friends. The life skills of resilience, empowerment, organisation, teamwork, communication and determination to achieve your goals are the core of the award.
Students have to complete four sections; physical, skill, volunteering and the expedition. Each student tailors the award to their interests and hobbies.
Every Friday the year 11’s have been attending a club and have been learnt some valuable first aid, the assemble/ disassemble of a tent, map reading and are soon to progress to how to use a Trangia to cook and compass points for planning their route for the expedition.
The year 9’s are due to have a full training day in February and then the club will start after this.
The expedition has been booked and all students will complete their expedition from Friday 28th to Sunday 30th March down in Kent. We are sure the students will enjoy this fantastic adventure.
