SERVIAM: WORKING TOGETHER WITH RESPECT FOR ALL

SERVIAM is the motto of all Ursuline schools worldwide. The word Serviam is Latin for “I will serve”. It is inspired by the teachings of St Angela Merici, Foundress of the Ursuline Order.

Serviam is at the heart of every student at St. Ursula’s Convent School and for many, the importance of Serviam stays with them long after they have left the school.

As well as taking part in an activity, students reflect on how this activity has helped them to understand, develop or deepen the virtue they are focusing on. By reflecting on how students are developing their virtues, students are contributing to their own character development and recognising the true happiness (eudaimonia) that comes from being of service to others.

All students participate in the wider life of the school to develop their gifts and talents as well contribute to the Common Good.

Students’ contribution to the ethos of the school and development of Serviam is recognised and celebrated regularly in school with a termly certificate for those selected by any member of staff.

Just a few acts of Serviam that some students may get involved in at St. Ursula’s Convent School:

  • Fund raising for various charities locally, nationally and internationally
  • Helping in the community
  • Harvest festivals collections for food banks
  • Supporting National Campaigns
